Academies & Colleges
Our foundation runs the Setagaya Junior Academy & College (STJA&C) as a place where children can have fun while developing their minds and bodies through sports, and improve their physical strength and basic athletic ability. During this period of remarkable growth in their lives, from infants to junior and senior high school students, we aim to develop the human qualities that will enable children to realize their dreams.

We aim to develop children's physical strength and basic motor skills through a variety of sports activities, as well as to foster the growth of their character, such as discipline, enthusiasm, and cooperation in group activities, and to develop the human strength that will enable them to realize their dreams.
[Improved physical strength]
Regular sports activities improve the physical fitness required by growing children.
[Improvement of basic motor skills]
By taking advantage of the motor characteristics of each sport, such as running, jumping, throwing, kicking, swimming and hitting, we aim to train the brains, nerves and bodies of growing children and improve their basic motor skills.
[Development of the Mind (Character)]
Through mental (personality) care from top athletes and interactions with peers outside of school, we foster discipline, initiative, and cooperation.
- About the course
-
Physical strength is the source of all human activity, and is deeply connected to living a healthy life as well as to mental fulfillment, such as the motivation and energy to tackle things. It supports healthy human development and growth, and is extremely important for living a richer and more fulfilling life.
"Getting tired as soon as they start walking, they sit down," "They don't put their hands back when they fall and end up hitting their face," "They can't skip," etc. The decline in children's physical strength due to changes in lifestyles both at home and in society as a result of the development of a civilized society has become a major social issue. According to the "Physical Fitness and Motor Ability Survey" conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, children's physical fitness and motor ability have been declining since peaking around 1960, and this trend has been particularly noticeable since 1985. In particular, when comparing the results of today's children with those of their parents' generation 50 years ago, their physical build is superior, but they fall behind in most test items.
There is not necessarily just one cause for this situation. There could be problems with the entire living environment, including diet and sleep issues, but the most central problem is a lack of physical activity. Possible causes include a decrease in time for outdoor play and sports activities due to an increase in outside school learning activities and indoor play time, a decrease in convenient play areas for children such as vacant lots and residential roads, and a decrease in peers due to a declining birthrate and outside school learning activities.
In today's society, it is necessary to consciously ensure opportunities for children to play outdoors and become familiar with sports, and it is especially important that parents fully understand the environment surrounding their children and actively create opportunities for them to be physically active.
In light of this situation, Setagaya Junior Academy & College (STJA&C) aims to improve children's physical strength and basic motor skills through sports, while also conveying the importance of communication with others, nurturing emotional growth, and building human potential. This project will involve top athletes familiar with Setagaya Ward as the general supervisor, and will develop a program using a unique curriculum that is optimal for today's children. Furthermore, with the support of supporting members (sports organizations within the ward), Setagaya Ward, as well as elementary and junior high schools, universities, and private companies, we will regularly carry out activities while making maximum use of the facilities managed and operated by our foundation, including Setagaya Ward General Athletic Ground, Okura Second Athletic Ground, Chitose Heated Pool, and Kibogaoka Community Gymnasium, as a combination of both hard and soft facilities.
Through this project, we hope to improve physical strength and basic motor skills, as well as develop mental growth, so that as many children as possible will develop the human qualities necessary to realize their dreams and soar to great heights.
